HR Pursuit

Phase 1 of 3 · Legal Hygiene

Texas educator certification requirement

Texas public schools generally must employ specified professional educators only when they hold the certificate or permit required for the assignment.

Verify the credential against the assignment before the employee begins work.

In plain English

A district or charter cannot treat a degree or prior experience as a substitute for the Texas credential legally required for a covered educator role.

What it looks like in business
Before a small charter posts a teacher vacancy, HR matches the active certificate or permit to the proposed assignment rather than the résumé story.
Why it matters
A person may be highly qualified yet legally ineligible for that role, grade span, subject, or student population.

Reading it once is not the same as knowing it. Put this term in the daily rotation and let the quiz come back for it.

This is HR guidance, not legal advice, and rules change. Check the current text and your own facts before you act on it. When a situation needs a lawyer, Jennifer will say so.
