HR Pursuit

Phase 1 of 3 · Legal Hygiene

Texas child labor law

The state rules that restrict which occupations, duties, and hours are open to a minor, sitting on top of the federal floor.

Age plus task plus hours determines whether the assignment is lawful.

In plain English

A minor may work only when the job, task, equipment, schedule, and age fit the applicable state and federal rules.

What it looks like in business
Before assigning a sixteen year old to a kitchen, warehouse, vehicle, or powered machine, HR checks the exact duty rather than the broad job title.
Why it matters
A generally safe workplace can still contain a prohibited task, and the stricter rule controls when state and federal limits differ.

Reading it once is not the same as knowing it. Put this term in the daily rotation and let the quiz come back for it.

Where this comes from

Tex. Lab. Code Ch. 51

This is HR guidance, not legal advice, and rules change. Check the current text and your own facts before you act on it. When a situation needs a lawyer, Jennifer will say so.

A gray steel filing drawer stands half open under a warm desk lamp, blank folder tabs in a neat row and one folder lifted just above the rest, DFW.

Knowing the term is the easy half.

Knowing whether it applies to your eight people, on your payroll, this week, is the part owners call about.
