HR Pursuit

Phase 3 of 3 · Hard Conversations

Clean exit

A planned ending of employment that covers the reason, the record, final pay, access, property, and what coworkers will be told.

Plan the last day the way you planned the first one.

In plain English

A clean exit is a planned last day, not a speech invented in anger.

What it looks like in business
Before the meeting, the owner has the file, the final pay math, the key and password list, a short script, and a consultant on call if the facts are messy.
Why it matters
At will lets you end employment for a lawful reason. It does not save a chaotic last day, a late paycheck, or a story that sounds like retaliation.

Reading it once is not the same as knowing it. Put this term in the daily rotation and let the quiz come back for it.

Where this comes from

Texas common law; Tex. Lab. Code Ch. 61

This is HR guidance, not legal advice, and rules change. Check the current text and your own facts before you act on it. When a situation needs a lawyer, Jennifer will say so.

Phase 3: Hard Conversations

A fair process for performance, complaints, accommodations, and exits so the owner is not both the boss and the only adult in the room.

Handle hard people moments without making them worse

Knowing the term is the easy half.

Knowing whether it applies to your eight people, on your payroll, this week, is the part owners call about.
